Head Coach - Annie Thompson
"Having swum competitively in her youth, Annie began coaching when daughter Amy started swimming at the age of 10. She started working with Harpenden in 2005 and moved over officially when Amy and Izzy switched to Harpenden in 2006. Annie does 13 hours a week on poolside as well as spending large amounts of her time away from poolside planning, writing schedules etc. She currently holds the ASA Level 3 Coaching certificate. In September 2012 Annie became Head Coach."

COACHES
The poolside aspect of Harpenden Swimming Club is run by a team of dedicated coaches. Many already have ASA Coach or Teacher qualifications, whilst others are working towards them. We also have some parents and older swimmers who help out.

Jon Smith
"In 2005 I was asked to help out with the club, and as my two daughters had recently joined I was happy to support. I was then asked to become a teacher which was a surprise. I did point out that did not have a swimming background and would be starting from scratch.
Two years later I had qualified as a teacher and was regularly on pool side helping out. I now coach 5 hours a week and help the head coach on the annual training camps for the junior and senior squads. I am now a Level 2 Teacher and Level 1 Coach.
The club needs volunteers to support it and I would recommend any parent who is interested to get involved and help our swimmers develop and improve."
Amy Thompson "I swam competitively from the age of 10 until I finished university. I moved to Harpenden SC in 2006 and during my time swimming with the club I won 2 County golds in the 200m breaststroke and was also Club Captain in 2008. Whilst away at University I also did some coaching with Durham City SC which gave me some new ideas!
My first qualification was my Level 1 Teachers which I achieved in 2008, and I have been helping out with the club ever since. I am now a Level 2 Coach and am in the process of finishing my Level 3. Currently I do 8-9 hours a week on poolside and in that time I manage to see every squad. I do the planning and schedules for the Seals and Sharks squads."
